From Heroes of the Great Tree

Mary Pebbles wasn't sure how she got her powers but she used them to battle criminals, from ordinary robbers to the very powerful mob, in Port of Paradise. Several months before the end of World War II she fell victim to a sniper's bullet. A statue of Aeroette, attended by her pet bat Windy, stands in Port of Paradise today. Citizen protests have kept the current administration from removing it.
