Background
Jack “Heat” Johnson was born in a small town on Regina. His pa was the local doctor and, from an early age, Jack was helping his father out. He didn't learn medicine from a school but became quite the accomplished doctor's aid. He was content to stay in his small town but his best friend wasn't. Loyal to a fault, Jack promised Ken's mother that he would look out for her son. That's why he followed Ken to war, though he didn't learn to shoot because he was a medic. That's why he signed up on the Mao's Claw. He helps out on the less legal jobs even though he finds them distasteful because he wants to make sure Ken doesn't get tossed in jail.
Heat died when the drop off on a job went bad. A stray bullet hit an anti-matter containment device and everything blew to hell.
Physical Appearance
Heat's got a baby face that tends to appeal to women. He has bright red hair and freckles. He prefers darker colors and often wears layers, since he thinks anything lower than 60 degrees is too cold.
Psychological Profile
Quiet and introspective. Jack's nickname, Heat, has more to do with his bright red hair than his temper. Buddhism informs his every action and he is very aware that his actions in this life impact his next.

Allure (Minor): Heat's a good looking young man, with a baby face that appeals to them that like men. Heat gets a +2 step Skill bonus on actions in which appearance plays a factor.
Healthy as a Horse (Minor): Maybe it is because his pa was a doctor, but Heat hasn't been sick a day in his life. Heat gains a +2 step Vitality bonus whenever he rolls to resist or shake off an illness or infection.
Religiosity (Minor): Heat isn't just a Buddhist. He's a Buddhist with deeply seated beliefs. Faith is what gets him through his days, even in moments of true despair. Once per session, Heat gets a +2 step bonus to any single Willpower-based action.
COMPLICATIONS
Creedo (Minor): While not a total pacifist, Heat does believe that violence should be used as a last resort. He won't fight unless he is sure his or someone else's life is on the line, which is too often these days. Heat will never throw the first punch and will use as little force as possible to get the job done if he does have to fight.
Loyal (Minor): Heat has been Ken's best friend since childhood. The only reason he left home was to keep Ken out of trouble. Heat will always stick by Kenneth Ling, even in moments of true adversity.
