Falling Down a Hole

It seems for every step forward, I go falling in a big hole. You see, as I have said in the past, I started out with a normal family: my ma, my pa, my brother, and me. After my pa went off to war, my family changed so many times that I have kind of gotten used to things being different. I have great respect for family. They is the ones who should stay beside you when all cards are down. But at the same time, they is also the ones who can cause the most problems.

With that in mind, I come to find out, my pa is alive and he summoned me to a small rock under the guise that he were my crew's dead brother. We knew it were a trap but we knew if we didn't go, we'd not be for sure of the situation. Afterall, as I said, family is family. You go when they call you.

So, we go knockin on this door expecting one person and instead get another.

But he tells me and my crew that the world ain't like I've been seeing it. He says that people have been manipulating us to do things that they wanted. Then he says he's gonna take my ship and save me cuz he knows what's best. Afterall, he's my pa.

He seems to have forgotten that I grew up in the decade he was gone.

So not for the first time, I lost my ship and got me a new ship. Then, I took that ship and sold it and bought another.

Why would I do such a silly thing? Well, I can't be too sure where this ship has been and I can't be too sure that it ain't trackable. Afterall, my pa said my other ship was keeping track of everywhere we went. What makes me think the one he gave me ain't doing the same.

I haven't talked to the crew about much of my thoughts lately. I think more than anything I'm trying to figure out what my thoughts are. Things aren't sitting right with me. Besides me being downright angry, my pa said a bunch of things that make me sit down and wonder.

He said he liked the verse the way it were and he liked being married and settling down. He said His brother kept pirating and was caught plying his trade. He said the Hyoshi Kobyashi wasn't his ship. It were a ship he stole and brought back to his people and that I were given that ship to infiltrate and that it were sending data back to them. He said Uncle Birui had arranged for me to find the map so that I would find where my father's people were and the people there. My pa also said that he wanted Ken to filter the map to people of importance to stop them from taking over the verse. He said he don't want to see me hurt and that Ken died because of him.

I know all this sounds like a bunch of ramblings that make no sense, so let me explain what I am led to believe based on what he said.

It seems my pa is a freedom fighter to save the verse from the destruction of his people. It seems that he is working to find out who is working for his people and needs my former ship to do it. It seems that my uncle Birui is on the side of my pa's family. It seems my crew and I were manipulated to record information and send it to my pa's people. My pa contacted my brother and were working together when he died.

Now here's what I know. My pa and my uncle Birui never liked each other. My brother and my Uncle Birui also didn't get along. I also know my Uncle Birui did not want me to be traipsing around the stars and more than once told me he'd prefer to have me home on Paquin. I know my pa took my family to Regina to get us away from the coming war. I'm wondering if my Pa took us to Regina to keep us away from something more than the war. I'm wondering where Yumi and her brothers stand in all this. Are they part of the scheme or did they happen in the wrong place at the wrong time. I know the man who died who was called Maurice of the Gold Mokey, was not the man who is my father's brother. I already knew that the Kobyashi Hoshi was a stolen vessel. According to his people, he were a pirate and for me it were logical that it were stolen. Pirates don't buy things. C insists he didn't find no inflitration on the Kobyashi Hoshi and considering the work he and Zari done did on the ship, I believe him. The biggest thing involving this is I don't know who to trust. My uncle is a business man and business is important to him. I don't think he would lie but I also know he don't have to lie when he just decides not to tell me something. That's been the way between my Uncle Birui and me. Now I don't see why my pa would lie to me, but I guess if he thought he were protecting me...

With all that in mind, here's my decision. I ain't gonna put the crew in another position where we don't know what's going on. Or at least I'm gonna try awful hard to avoid that. I know you might think I can't know everything, but I can at least make a better effort to know what's going on when it comes to my so called family. The first step is to gather information. There are a few things I need figured out and I got a hundred credits put aside for a rainy day to find out. I've got a few stops that I think I need to make and a few people I need to talk to. There will always be someone looking to take advantage of us. As captain, it's my job to ensure we ain't taken advantage of more than usual.

Many of the people I know are either from my Uncle or from my Brother. I'm gonna have to be right good careful to keep reign on my words when talking to those people who might be suspect. I do believe I have gained more contacts over the years since my brother died that I can have a better guarantee that they aren't involved in this mess.
