The Valenor were given the task of protecting Malaan from Outsiders of all kinds (but especially Demons). The Valenor were said to always die in their armor, and this was an honor. Wearing the armor suggested a person could either kill the Valenor, or kill whatever killed the Velenor, and no dishonor is transferred.
